A signature Travilla look. An extraordinarily SEXY gown... Marilyn Monroe thought so, too! This slinky gown is by William Travilla, the same designer who designed Marilyn's famous white dress for the Seven Year Itch and her fabulous gold gown for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. This dress is even the same style as the famous gold dress from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (except Marilyn's had diamonds and pearls on the front). In fact, Marilyn was one of Travilla's favorite women. A juicy tidbit: Travilla even admitted to having had a brief affair with Marilyn. This is a dramatic pleated cream colored bias cut satin gown with a plunging neckline and halter strap. In the words of Bill Travilla, this gown is "wrapped on the body to a back bias seam." It has no side seams and no darts. Travilla adored using bias cuts. When talking about his use of bias cut fabrics Travilla once said, "bias cut fabric subtly leans into the body, and touches the body... but it's never vulgar." The halter strap closes behind the neck with hook and eye closures. The gown has a dramatically open back. Rear zipper. Fully lined. Travilla label. Additional label for Lou Rose of santa barbara. In very good condition, but there is some slight yellowing to the back of the neck strap. Also, there is a pin spot hidden in one of the pleats of the skirt and another faint pin spot on the back near the zipper.
