From the estate of lengendary operatic diva Rosa Ponsell. To read a full bio on Rosa Ponselle, please click here. This particular gown was obviously not worn during her career, but later (50's) to a gala event. Unfortunately, though I believe the source of this gown to be reliable, we do not have a COA.

If only the photos could begin to do this dress any justice! Sadly, between the fact that the dress form is just not well enought endowed for this dress and the fact that we're using a temporary photo set-up while waiting for our new offices... the photos just don't capture the true glamour of this gown. Constructed from yards upon yards of black polka dotted faconne velvet (can't remember if that's the term I want... velvet that's burnt out through a chemical process to produce a pattern). Fitted, strapless bodice with solid black velvet band at the top. Gown has an unbelievable full ball gown skirt with a dramatic large black velvet sash and bow in the rear. Picture this with a pair of long black evening gloves and a diamond choker. Mmmmmm.... The gown is imeccably constructed and largely finished by hand. Rear metal zipper. Bodice is boned. Hem is stiffened. To see a close up of the bodice, please click here. To see the rear of this dress, please click here.

Size (need help with your measurements? click here): 39" bust, 29 1/2" waist, full hips. Approximately 54" from underarm to hem.

Condition: In good condition. The body of the gown is in excellent condition, but two of the bones had poked through the velevet at the top edge of the back of the bodice (leaving 1/2" splits in the velvet). I had my assistant repair them, but I'm not thrilled with the reapirs... you may want to have them redone.
